If you've lived in Dundee for more than a summer, you may have heard about a project going into an old house on Underwood before its plans were clear. It has since opened, and here's an update on what's there now.

The clearest case right now sits behind a driveway at 4917 Underwood Avenue.

Back in the summer of 2025, word went around that a historic home on Underwood was being turned into a bar with a bookstore inside it. No opening date, no name, just a project in progress and neighbors speculating about what it would become. That kind of story tends to calcify. People keep telling it long after the plywood comes down.

Omaha Exploration's feature on the shop describes what followed: Duck Duck Bottle Shop officially opened in May 2026, after a quiet soft opening the week before. It occupies a century-old American Foursquare house, the kind with newspaper records tracing back to 1916, and the way you experience it breaks from almost everything else on the street. You don't walk in the front door. You come in through the driveway, into a backyard that functions as the entire bar. Picnic tables, bistro sets, a small stage for live music, a kids' playhouse tucked among native plants that draw butterflies. Dogs are welcome. The basement, meanwhile, has become the actual bottle shop and bookstore, stocked with wine, beer, coffee, and tea, run by owners Fortina and Casey Fictum with a stated preference for wine from climate-conscious producers.

It also runs a handful of clubs out of that basement, the kind of small, specific gathering that only makes sense in a neighborhood where people already know each other. A book club. A wine club built around sustainable winemaking. If you've been waiting for the "bar and bookstore" you heard about last year, you can stop waiting. It's been pouring drinks in a backyard behind a hundred-year-old house since spring.

Third Saturdays: Two Dates Left in 2026

Third Saturdays: Music in Dundee is a seasonal concert series.

Since April, it has brought a different local musician to 50th and Underwood, in the lot behind KFAB, every third Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The casual crowd makes it the kind of thing you catch on your way to dinner rather than plan your whole night around.

The series runs April through October, and these are its remaining 2026 dates:

• Saturday, September 19
• Saturday, October 17

After the October date, the series goes quiet until spring.

Dundee Day already came and went this year too, on August 22, marking its 32nd run as an organized event since the tradition started as a merchant sidewalk sale back in the 1950s.

A New Business Update Near 50th and Dodge

The details are still preliminary.

As of the first week of September, signage went up for a Shiki Sushi at 4900 Dodge Street, in the space that used to hold Varsity Sports Café near the 50th and Dodge intersection. No opening date has been announced. No menu, no hours, nothing beyond a sign on a storefront that used to be something else.

These updates offer a snapshot of Dundee: one business that has opened, a seasonal event with two dates remaining, and a new storefront without an announced opening date.

The Places That Didn't Need an Update

Not everything in Dundee is mid-transition, and that steadiness is its own kind of information. Pitch Pizzeria has been running its coal-fired ovens out of 5021 Underwood for years now, private dining room and all, and nothing about that has changed this fall. Dundee Dell, over at 5007 Underwood, is still the oldest restaurant in Omaha, over a century in, and still pouring from one of the deeper whisky lists in the city after a recent renovation that kept the original character intact. Avoli Osteria is still doing Northern Italian food built around seasonal ingredients. Amsterdam Falafel & Kabob is still turning out its doner kabob at 620 North 50th.

And Fresh Floral, at 4922 Dodge Street, keeps doing what it's done since 2023. It's a Heart Ministry Center social enterprise, meaning the flower shop itself functions as job training for graduates of the Fresh Start program, with proceeds going back to fund services for people affected by poverty in the Omaha area. It's easy to walk past a florist and see only a florist. This one is also a small, ongoing piece of the neighborhood's economy that most people who buy a bouquet there never think to ask about.

The steady places are worth naming precisely because they don't generate news. A neighborhood's daily rhythm gets built on the restaurants nobody has to wonder about, not the ones with fresh signage and no opening date yet.

Together, these updates show a mix of new and familiar places and events in Dundee: Duck Duck Bottle Shop is open, Third Saturdays has two dates left in its 2026 season, and Shiki Sushi has signage up but no announced opening date.
